Never been to a burlesque show before? No worries! At Lieschen Mueller, you’ll experience the perfect introduction to the world of burlesque for beginners. Our Cirque du Burlesque every Friday and Saturday from 7 PM is welcoming and leaves you wanting more. Here’s exactly what awaits you and how to prepare optimally – no prior knowledge needed.
What is Burlesque Really?
Burlesque fundamentally differs from striptease. It’s all about tease and tension: Dancers build up slowly, revealing piece by piece, playing with your gaze. The highlight? The final moment often stays hidden – that’s the charm of “almost, but not quite.” Typical elements include the Glove Peel (slowly removing gloves), Stocking Roll (playfully rolling down stockings), and Hip Shimmy (sensual hip circling).
At Lieschen Mueller, you see New Burlesque: Modern performers blend 1920s vintage style (corsets, feather boas, glitter) with acrobatics, singing, and humor. The show lasts four hours including breaks – arrive relaxed, watch, and enjoy the magic.
The Show Breakdown – Step by Step
7:00 PM Doors Open: Enter a world of glitter, red lights, and rabbit motifs. Playfully costumed bar ladies greet you with cocktails. Choose seats near the stage for intense closeness or farther back for a perfect overview.
7:30 PM Opening: The MC welcomes the audience, first acts begin. Typical is the Pinup Pose – an artist poses like a 50s poster, smiles seductively, turns elegantly. Followed by Feather Boa Tease: The boa opens slowly to reveal a glamorous costume.
Main Program: 8 to 10 different acts rotate. Expect Chair Dance (sensual chair dance), Fan Dance (fans that conceal and reveal), Aerial Silk (breathtaking rope dance). Each number lasts 5 to 8 minutes. A live band plays jazz, swing, and modern remixes.
Interaction: Dancers wink, smile, sometimes invite guests on stage. Applause is key – cheer, whistle, take photos (but no video).
Between Acts: Time for cocktails, chats with neighbors. Bar ladies happily explain what’s next.
Proper Preparation for Beginners
Outfit: Smart casual with a glitter touch fits perfectly. Women: Red dress or blouse with earrings. Men: Shirt instead of T-shirt, no sneakers. High heels amplify the vibe but optional.
Tickets: Book online at lieschen-mueller.com and arrive early – seats not reserved. Groups should reserve tables.
Drink Choice: Start with light aperitifs (Prosecco, Gin Tonic). Heavy drinks later – stay clear to fully enjoy the show.
Attitude: Just stay relaxed. Smile, clap, hold eye contact with performers. They love positive audience energy.
Expectations: Burlesque is sensual, not pornographic. Nudity limited to pasties and underwear. Focus on dancers’ confidence and artistic performance.
Burlesque Moves You’ll Recognize
Bump & Grind: Hips forward and back, shoulders fixed
Hair Toss: Dramatically flip hair back, head tilted
Floor Work: Elegant floor work, always tasteful
Grand Reveal: Costume drops to show a stunning underdress
The Marlies Story in the background makes it authentic: Our GDR circus artist with her rabbit inspired the entire design.
